Monitoring of Water Pollution :
The J&K PCC is also monitoring Water pollution at some selected designated locations identified by the CPCB under National Water Quality Monitoring Programme (NWMP).
- In Jammu Region, the monitoring is being conducted at 53 locations on River Tawi, Chenab, Basanter, Devak, Ban ganga, Wetlands (Mansar Lake, Surinsar etc).
- In Kashmir Region, the monitoring is being conducted at 47 locations on River Jhelum, Lidder, Sindh, Dal lake/Nigeen Lake etc.
- The J&K PCC is also monitoring the Water Quality of Dal Lake on monthly basis at 17 locations and the data of water quality is regularly being sent to the Hon’ble High Court of J&K as per their directions.
Monitoring of Air Pollution :
The JKPCC has set up a network to monitor the major air pollutants like SO2, NO2, RSPM, PM10 and PM 2.5 in J&K.
- In Jammu Region, the Air monitoring for SO2, NO2 , PM5 and RSPM is carried out at 05 locations.
- In Srinagar Region, the Air monitoring is carried out at 08 locations. Besides this, PM5 which is a critical parameter is also being monitored at 5 locations in Srinagar city.
- Further, the JK PCC has also successfully installed the first ever Continuous Ambient Air Quality Monitoring System (CAAQMS) for real time monitoring of Ambient Air Quality, at Rajbagh in Srinagar in February 2021. The system is working satisfactorily for real time online monitoring of Air Quality Index (AQI) of Srinagar city.
- 24 new Ambient Air Quality Monitoring System (Jammu = 13, Kashmir = 11) under NAMP have also been established at designated sites and the data collection on air pollution has been analyzed on regular basis from these new stations.
