Introduction

The Jammu and Kashmir Pollution Control Board (now Jammu and Kashmir Pollution Control Committee-JKPCC) was created in the year 1987 vide Govt. Order No. 34 of 1987 dated 30-08-1987 in pursuance of sub-section (1) of section 4 of the Water (Prevention & Control) of Pollution Act 1974. J&K PCC is a Statutory Body entrusted with enforcement of environmental laws within the territorial jurisdiction of UT of J&K. The Central Pollution Control Board, in exercise of powers conferred by Section 4, clause (4) of the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974, and section 6 of the Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1981 has delegated all its powers vested under the said acts in respect of the UT of J&K to the Jammu and Kashmir Pollution Control Committee, in terms of notification dated 25 March 2021.
